Responsibilities

Responsible for supporting regulatory compliance enterprise wide by development and execution of best practices and processes focused on speed-to-market, consistency and compliance for all functions related to the implementation of regulatory and legislative changes or enhancements to THE GENERAL’s core products through collaboration with various business partners and risk identification and mitigation.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities
 

  • Serves as point of contact, coordinating and collaborating with regulatory bodies and business partners to ensure compliance with all state requirements are met.
  • Researches relevant laws, regulations and case law to interpret and draft policy contract language r business issues.
  • Formalize compliance opinions regarding legal questions or issues as they arise either in written response or participation in business decisions.
  • Works with IT, Underwriting, Product and the Director of Corporate Compliance to develop and maintain processes and procedures to facilitate the timely and accurate execution of all types of product enhancements.
  • Assists with the interpretation of applicable laws and regulations working with various Business Partners.
  • Works with Legal, Product and the Director of Corporate Compliance to develop and maintain processes and procedures to monitor and respond to any and all Regulatory and/or Legislative requirements which result in changes to product design or rating.
  • Works with Legal, Product, IT, Claims, Underwriting, Customer Service and the Director of Corporate Compliance to research new state expansion due diligence turning statutes, regulations and case law as well as competitor research and benchmarking into Product Specifications.
  • Develops tools that assist in determining exposure to regulatory and/or compliance risks.
  • Compiles information related to quality improvement and compliance monitoring activities for internal use and external audits and maintains relevant records. 
  • Provides guidance and oversight to business units to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance and monitors corrective action plans relating to regulatory compliance.
  • Serves as consultant for all other members of the Product Department as to best practices and current system functionality as well as provide guidance and advice for enhancements or changes.
  • Serves as a liaison and committee member to various groups charged with directing and designing system edits, workflows and various processes and procedures necessary to effectively run our business.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Two years of automobile insurance experience required, non-standard preferred.  Solid understanding of the insurance industry needed.
  • Active license to practice law or paralegal certificate or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Specific knowledge of the states in which THE GENERAL does business is preferred.
  • Experience with the rate/rule/forms development and filing process within P&C preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office required, intermediate excel skills a must
  • Position requires the ability to perform basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and basic statistics.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret relevant laws to determine the compliance impact to the business
  • Position requires the ability to provide oral and written communication regarding compliance or legal issues to various departments and levels of management as well as state departments of insurance and outside legal counsel
  • Education Requirements

 

Bachelor’s degree in Business (Marketing, Insurance, Business Law, etc.) required.

Doctor of Jurisprudence degree required
