Responsibilities

The Technical QA Analyst role will be responsible for ensuring quality excellence of ongoing software releases and new feature development by contributing technical expertise to the testing lifecycle. This requires comprehensive knowledge of the systems, their uses, and the data driving the various applications. The Technical QA Analyst will know what scenarios are required to fully test changes as well as what the format of the supporting data for each scenario.

 

The Technical QA Analyst will be responsible for test suite creation, test planning, test case creation, manual system testing, and logging of defects found during testing. Additional execution and possible creation of automated tests and incident investigation may be required. The Technical QA Analyst supports projects requested by all PGAC departments with the support of QA Leads, or QA Management.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Supports custom solutions to meet requirements.  The requirements will change with each new phase of implementation.
  • Manages test environments, data configuration/generation and test case preparation including writing complex queries, and managing database data to ensure referential integrity.
  • Reviews project specifications to estimate testing time, gain understanding of project goals and objectives, and determines efficient and effective ways of testing.  Test plans are expected to be reviewed by the QA Manager and/or QA Peer Reviewer. Interacts with developers and/or business analysts to answer any questions regarding specifications and to establish a meeting with the project owner if warranted.
  • Fully understands the programming changes before testing begins to reduce the amount of errors and reduce rework within the department.
  • Develops test plans/procedures including test methods such as, functional, system tests, regression and/or integration testing per project request based on project specifications.
  • Manually tests programming changes and/or system enhancements to validate intended functionality and the integrity of the system.
  • Prepares and presents system findings to all business owners in writing and orally to assist the business owners in determining the best corrective action to be applied to the system.
  • Assists development staff in recreating incidents and defects so they can correct any issues as needed.
  • Provides system support by determining root cause of problems, locating all affected data, correcting affected data where appropriate and notifying others of the need for any system operation tables found to have caused the system issue.
  • Continually grows knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; developing and maintaining personal networks and/or participation in professional test organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Logical and analytical problem solving skills
  • Positive client service approach with a 'Can do-will do' attitude
  • Experience in JIRA or similar ticket management system
  • Experience analyzing, understanding, and testing complex custom logic
  • Ability to work in a team environment to balance quantity and speed with the quality of work required
  • Knowledgeable in Waterfall and Agile methodologies
  • Proven troubleshooting and technical assessment skills
  • Presentable, client facing skills
  • XML, XSL
  • Databases: SQL Server, DB2, Oracle
  • 2-3 years experience working with data in a relational database
  • 3-5 years experience working with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Advanced knowledge of testing methodologies
  • Legacy, terminal-based system experience preferred
  • Insurance industry experience preferred
  • Position requires the ability to perform basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and basic statistics.
  • Position requires the ability to use and interpret information, which requires refining and improving existing methods of analysis for testing of software applications.
  • Position requires the ability to provide oral and written communication regarding testing issues to all levels of personnel, vendors etc.
  • Position requires the ability to use innovative thought to develop ideas which result in improvements in existing methods, services or products.
  • Position requires the ability to participate with other team members, including business analysts, to create specifications.
  • Proven time management, judgment and organization skills needed.

Education Requirements
 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or computer related field preferred.
